Christchurch Avon Athletic Club – 2020/21 Membership Year.

At long last, we are open for business from this Saturday. Our opening event will be a time trial on the Burnside Highschool Track 1 km circuit over distances from 2km to 5km. There will also be the option of a pack run(s) of up to one hour.

Well here we are at last in Alert Level 2. The rules have not been loosened as much as we hoped for, particularly with a limit of 10 on group size for sporting gatherings. Yes, we can have multiple separated groups of 10, but at the Exec meeting this week we decided that these would be difficult to organise and we don’t have enough coaches to run additional separate groups.

As we enter our last weekend under level 4 Lockdown, let me congratulate you for your great success in maintaining Lockdown restrictions while also maintaining your training and putting in some great performances on the VRuns.

 I hope you are all coping well with Lockdown and keeping up some training. The nice weather recently will help that and it looks like staying fine for Easter.

Well, the 23rd of March announcement from the government that we are to go to Emergency Level 4 Full Lockdown for 4 weeks from midnight 25th of March rather overtaken my last message that we were hoping to continue with Club training.

You will probably have seen the recent communication from Athletics Canterbury advising that interclub races are cancelled until 31 May 2020.

Some of us think our Club rooms could benefit from a bit of a refurbishment. Recent good work to remove a lot of old stuff from the downstairs area has created space that we can make use of to gain upstairs room.
